September 2014 Newsletter 3
Since its inception 22 years ago, the Meiringspoort Half Marathon has grown into one of South Africa’s premier half marathons. It remains unchallenged for its breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
This year we are privileged to welcome three athletes who have completed all 22 races! We will honour them with special commemorative medals. As for the rest of the field, the lucky draws are not to be missed this year, so please stick around for those.
The Meiringspoort Half is a prestigious event on the running calendar and a lively, joyous affair, and we’ve again arranged live entertainment. You will find the fun in the marquee tent on Friday 10 October, where the talented Michael Lindt will entertain us with music and song from late afternoon until late at night.
Earlier in the afternoon, a cash bar will be open from 14:00 to 23:00, and again on Saturday from 09:00 to 00:00.
A huge variety of music will be played on Saturday 11 October, from early in the morning throughout the day. Rugby can be watched on the big screen, and to make things even more festive, there will be burgers on the braai, “potjiekos” and “slap” chips.
There is no cost involved, so just bring yourself, relax and put your feet up or dance! This will be an excellent opportunity to reflect on the day’s race and share your experiences with friends (old and new), club members and family.
The whole of the De Rust community is getting behind the annual “Kerkbasaar” and planning lip-smacking eats and drinks for visitors to the friendliest “plattelandse dorpie” of all. Yep, this year the church bazaar aims, as always, to delight the senses with fresh pancakes, rusks (all types), pies, “ystervarkies” (Lamingtons), cupcakes, freshly baked cakes and tarts, homemade lemon syrup, and “roosterkoek”, with your choice of relish, cheese or jam. And of course there will also be crunchy koeksisters, as only the “tannies” from De Rust can make.
No need to get thirsty either, for there will be tea, coffee and cappuccino on sale, and a big variety of ice-cold cold drinks. Plus, there will be burgers on the braai and tasty paella. Hungry yet?
Indien enigiets is die poedings hierdie jaar selfs beter en smaakliker as ooit, maar vanjaar word dit met ’n kinkel aangebied. Verseker moet jy ’n draai maak in die Klein Karoo Koffiekroeg!
Finally, don’t forget our famous steak, salad & chips, and the ever popular jaffles (mince, chicken and breakfast), all freshly made.
All the above-mentioned food lines will be available on Friday, 10 October from 14:00 until 22:00, and again on Saturday, 11 October from 05:00 to 13:00.
UNBEATABLE KAROO MEAT
Have you ever tasted Karoo Lamb? The best of the best! The “Vleistafel” is an absolute must. Find it on stage in the NG Church hall and feast your senses on our display of world-famous lamb, biltong and “droëwors”, mince, hamburger patties, kebabs and many more meat products to choose from.
Better yet, why not pre-order your Karoo Lamb from Jacoline Delport, on 044 241 2506 / 079 478 3168, and collect during the bazaar? It will be cut and packed the way you like it.
Details regarding payment and ordering can be found on the order form.
PAINTING TO BE WON
Local artist Glendine Vorster has donated an exquisite painting, currently exhibited at Village Trading Post, De Rust. This marvellous piece will be on display in the marquee tent on Friday and Saturday at the cash bar, and one lucky raffle ticket holder will walk away with it! Village Art Gallery De Rust donated the canvas and frame.
The remarkable amount of R25 000 has already been raised since 2013, when raffle tickets went on sale. The funds are in aid of Die Herberg Children’s home in Robertson.
The value of the framed painting is R12 000, so those who want to be in the hunting should act now to be in line. Tickets are still going at a cost of R20 each. For more information about the raffle contact Brende Brits at 082 359 5051 or firstname.lastname@example.org
