Die Herberg Kinderhuis - 2014

During the first weekend of Feb 2014, 12 girls, between the ages of 10 and 16, were spoiled. The Glendine painting that was raffeld, raised an astonishing amount of R25 000. These funds are spend on the girls of Herberg Children's Home, House G, in Robertson.
The combi was filled-up with fuel, for them to be able to travel save from Robertson to Hartenbos. When the most beautiful girls and their house mom, Estia arrived in Hartenbos, they unpacked and settled in at the Jeugsentrum Hartenbos. You can hear, see & feel the excitement of the girls. Each girl made a wish list of things she would really like to have, but there are no money available to buy. Things on the lists included hair straighter, perfume, back-pack, Tomy tekkies, One Direction CD, sports wear, toiletries, sleep wear and track suits. Each girl received R1000 for shopping.
Saturday morning breakfast was prepared en severed by De Rusters. Several ladies from De Rust, who were involved in the Children's Home and the girls hopped in the combi. We drove to the local mall in Mosselbay. What a nice feeling it was, to take two to three girls, full of laughter, for shopping! The ability to give and share gratitude. Shopping is hard work and can be exhausting. They enjoyed it very much.

In the afternoon, we had a picnic at the caravan park. They all received a huge, colourful bath sheet towel, to be used for the sea. A girl needs to be prepared for the sand. Each towel was labelled with a girls name. She received her own beach towel - her own! Happy and excited, they went to swim in the clear blue sea, under supervision. While on the beach, they were treated with ice cream, snacks, chips and a cold soft drinks. Late afternoon they quickly went for a glide at the water park. Lots of fun, lots of laughter.
Back in the their rooms, the girls planned a concert for the evening. A lovely dinner set, cutlery, glasses were especially bought for the girls. Dinner was prepared and paid by De Rusters. After a lovely meal, the girls treated us with a special concert. The concert was full of drama and singing, for sure they entertained the De Rusters. We all sat around the huge camp fire. Interesting and humorous stories were told. We all laughed and cried together. The evening was concluded on a high note. Thereafter all got ready for a well deserved night rest.
Sunday morning rusks and coffee was enjoyed by a well rested group of girls. We all had a full breakfast at Spur. Orders included English breakfast, additional worsies, beacon and toast, juice, tea and milkshakes. For sure, the girls enjoyed the fresh prepared breakfast, in the restaurant. For a last time they went for a swim and ride on the water slides. Once again they were spoiled with a ice cold drink & ice cream of their choice. The combi was filled-up with fuel, tyers, oil and water levels, were checked by friendly garage staff. It is important for them to be safe on the road back to Robertson.

Every girl received a food parcel for the long way back to Robertson. This included a hot dog, juice, fruit, yogurt and chocolate. Boxes of rusks, biscuits, fresh fruit and vegetables, cereals, long fresh milk and other groceries, were also going back to Robertson.
After the girls hugged all the people from De Rust, who attended the weekend, they sung the last song of appreciation. There was not a dry eye in the circle of friends.
The girls and Estia enjoyed the weekend, they felt honoured for the time and money that was spend on them. Now all packed-up ready to go back to Herberg Children's Home. With a wave and blown kisses, everyone was happy
We felt honoured to make a difference in their lives.
